In the new summer CBS TV series Under the Dome, I was somewhat surprised to discover that one of the characters is named Lester Coggins.
Coggins is an old English surname but relatively rare. The only other occurrence that I remember in movies or TV is a minor character in the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
In the new TV series, the character certainly looks like a Coggins. He is bald like most of my male relatives. The series, after all, is called Under the Dome.
I was almost encouraged also to learn that the Coggins in the new series is a Christian minister (as well as the local undertaker—we Cogginses tend to be multi-talented). However, in typical Hollywood fashion, he is also involved in some kind of illegal scheme and is possibly a drug addict. After all, it is a well-known fact that all Christian ministers are disreputable characters—at least on TV and in the movies.
