Last week, I went to see a prophet again (see previous post from July 4, 2014). He is a retired pastor, now in a nursing home. His health is not good, but he told me how he talks to the other residents and the staff about God. He talked about the unexpected upside of his current situation.
I talked to him about some of the problems some of my good friends are facing. I unloaded some of my burdens on this frail, old man.
And then, as he usually does, he prayed for me. He prayed for my friends. And then he prayed that I would remember that I am not God.
The thought was unexpected, but I got the message. I cannot solve my friends’ problems. But God can, and I should leave the problems in God’s capable hands.
I am sure the visit encouraged me more than it did my friend, the prophet.
